Fair Enough / まあ、いいだろう

この表現はどんなドラマにも頻繁に出てきます。100%までいかないけれど、まあ受け入れることはできる、とりあえずOK、というちょっと折れた感じの表現。実際の使われ方を見ていきましょう。ありすぎて、選ぶのが大変ですが・・・

次のシーンは『ブレイキング・バッド』シーズン３ エピソード２から。スカイラーとベネキーが会社の帳簿の数字が合わないことで話し合っているところ。最終的にスカイラーがKeller社の件が解決されないかぎりサインしないと主張し、ベネキーがFair enough. まあ、そうか分かった、と応答します。心のなかではサインして欲しいのですがね。

ス：I don't want to bring this up, but I can't sign off on these quarterlies.
　　I'm sorry, I just can't.
べ：Is that right?
ス：If you're gonna do this, it can't be so glaring.
べ：Glaring.
　　Okay.
　　That does sound bad.
　　Show me what's bothering you.
ス：Keller.
べ：Again. Oh, God, I'm sorry.
　　I know how you feel about this.
ス：Revenue with no backup.
　　Here, here and here.
　　I don't even know what to say.
べ：Yeah.
　　Yeah, well, okay.
　　This is fixable, right?
　　How about if I just push 28,800 out of this into next quarter?
　　Would you sign it then?
ス：I'm just saying I can't sign it as it currently exists.
べ：Fair enough.
　　I'll take care of it.
　　Thank you for the heads-up.

Copy That / 了解

これは上司から何か命令を受けた時に了解したことを表すのに頻繁に使われる表現。ハッキリ言って、ラジャーとかなんかより多いです。っつーか、ラジャーなんてドラマで聞いたことないし（笑）　電話（無線）でのやり取りや対面でも使われます。ビジネスシーンというより上下関係が激しい軍隊なんかで使われる感じみたい。

次は『ビッグバン★セオリー』シーズン４ エピソード１３から。科学シンポジウムで話すことになったいつものメンバー。車２台に分かれて会場に向かっている場面です。シェルドンが、ハワードの乗っている車の位置を確認するため無線でコンタクトを取ってます。しかし、すぐ後ろにぴったりくっついているハワードにとって定期報告は全く無意味なもの。中指を立てたくなるのも分かりますね。

シ：Red Leader to Red Five, come in.
　　Red Leader to Red Five, come in.
　　Howard, you promised.
ハ：Fine. Red Five to Red Leader.
　　What do you want now?
シ：It's 11:15.
　　I'm requesting your quarter-hourly location update.
ハ：Still right behind you.
シ：Copy that, Red Five.
　　Radio contact is sufficient.
　　No need to extend your middle finger.
