どことなく子供っぽい響きだけどドラマでよく出てくる単語を紹介。思わず口ずさみたくなること請け合い？！ 

Nitty-gritty /nítiˌgríti/ 問題の核心、本質

核心を言うにはそれこそcore、root、focalだったりで言えるわけですが、堅苦しくなってしまうのか、この単語もたまに聞きます。最初聞いた時は言葉あそびか何かと勘違いして、まさか辞書に載っているとは思いもしませんでした。

『ベター・コール・ソウル』シーズン１ エピソード７より。ジミーがマイクをケトルマン家に忍び込ませて横領金をせしめた翌日、ケトルマン家に訪れたところ。横領を認めないケトルマン夫妻（クレイグ、ベッツィー）に認めさせキムのところに戻すには、お金を盗んで元の場所に戻すしかないんですね。キムの機嫌もとって、好感度アップだし。本題に入る前にと、ここではnitty-grittyが使われています。

ジ：Last time I was here, it was, uh, well, not a contender for the cover of good housekeeping...that's for sure.
べ：[Chuckles]
　　Do you have news about our case?
ジ：I do, in fact.
　　But before we get to the nitty-gritty, I think we should chat about your deal.
べ：Ah.

Jibber-jabber /ʤíbərˌdʒæbər/ 興奮して早口のおしゃべり

同じような意味の言葉にgibberishというのもあります。チンプンカンプンな話、でたらめな文章。ぴったりなのはタモリの外国語ネタでしょうか。どちらも頭のスペルは微妙に違うけど発音は同じなので、語源は一緒のはず。わたしも海外ドラマ初見の時は、会話全てがjibber-jabberに聞こえたものでした。

下記は『ビッグバン★セオリー』シーズン４エピソード２３の、文字通りjibber-jabberだらけの会話より。レナードがラジの姉と付き合いだしてからレナード・シェルドンと距離を置いていたペニー。久しぶりに地下の洗濯室でシェルドンと会話です。シェルドンのjibber-jabberもいつもならヤレヤレですが、ここでは懐かしさの余りクスッと来ます。最後のシェルドンがjibber-jabberの由来をjibber-jabberするところで、その後を聴きたいのは私だけでしょうか？ 途中にあるhunky-doryも似たライムの言葉ですね。”本気通り”なんて、日本の何処かにありそうな道です。
