スターウォーズであるある

今日は劇場でスターウォーズ観てきました。今まで一度も観たことがなかったので、ところどころ筋が把握できない箇所がありましたが、概ね満足の映画でした。日本語字幕だったので英語の会話の方に集中していましたが、キャッチできた表現の中で実際ドラマでも使われているのを紹介します。

Mumbo Jumbo / チンプンカンプン

以前紹介した中でgibberishというのがありましたが、それと全く同じ意味です。ハン・ソロ（ハリソン・フォード）が使っていました。どういう文脈だったかは完全に失念。帝国軍について話している時だったかな？　これから観る人は劇場で確認してみてください。マンボ・ジャンボとはっきり言っている＆音がライムなので気付けると思います。

次の場面は、The Big Bang Theory シーズン７ エピソード２１から。レナードとエイミーが酒場でだべっている時にペニーから電話。どうも、シェルドンをサイキック、占い師のところへ連れて行ったとのこと。コレに対し、エイミーがextra-jumbo mumbo jumboと大げさに表現していますね。

レ：Ah, it's Penny.
エ：Is she still mad?
レ：Oh, doesn't seem like it.
　　She got Sheldon to go to a psychic with her.
エ：A psychic?
　　He considers them not just mumbo jumbo, but extra-jumbo mumbo jumbo.
レ：Well, Penny can be pretty persuasive.
　　She's gotten me to do a lot of things I wouldn't normally do.
エ：Because she has sex with you.
レ：Yeah, she does.

次はこの有名なセリフ。劇場では最後に出てきました。次のThe Big Bang Theory シーズン７ エピソード２２では、スターウォーズの日についてギーク４名がタダ食いペニーになんとか気づかせようとしています。

シ：Gentlemen, Star Wars day is rapidly approaching.
　　We should finalize our plans.
ペ：What? That's a real thing?
　　What is it, Star Wars Christmas?
ハ：No. Don't be ridiculous.
　　That's Wookiee Life Day.
ペ：So, when is it?
レ：Uh, well, it's not May the fifth and it's not May the third...
　　It's May the fourth.
シ：Get it?
ラ：May the fourth be with you?
レ："May the force be with you."
　　Get it?
ペ：Oh, no. This face wasn't because I didn't get it.
