不吉の兆しを意味「Writing on the Wall」の語源って？

writing on the wallは聖書の話をもとにしたイディオムのようです。バビロンの王様が宴を愉しんでいたら、中空に手がいきなり現れて、壁に文字を書き消えていった。その内容はバビロン王朝の落日を予言するものだった・・・。そこから不吉なことを表すみたいですね。そんな手が実用化されれば学校の先生が列をなして買い求めるでしょう。板書が楽になるから（笑） 早速海外番組での使用例を確認していきたいと思います。

壁に書かれた文字なんて普通なのに、この表現のため不吉に響いてしまうのは面白いですね。血で壁に書かれたスマイリーフェイスなら不吉というか死体がそばに転がっていそうですが。使われ方は主に２パターン。see the writing on the wallとthe writing is on the wallです。
